Indices

By Frederik Drost

Indices are markers located on the face of a watch, usually a wristwatch. They indicate the hours, minutes and seconds, and may also include markers such as day and date. Indices come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including Roman numerals, Arabic numerals, lines, symbols, and diamonds. They are usually made from metal, although some are made from plastic or ceramic materials. Indices can be printed, painted, or applied with a lacquer finish. They are an important feature of watch design, serving both practical and aesthetic purposes.
