Plating

By Frederik Drost

Plating is a process used in the watchmaking industry to coat the metal surfaces of a watch with a thin layer of a different metal. It is used to give the watch a more aesthetically pleasing look, protect it from corrosion and wear, and in some cases, to color the watch. It can be applied to both the case and bracelet of a watch. The most common type of plating is done with gold, silver, and rhodium, but other precious metals are also used.
